Spiders in the Square! They chase each other, fight, try to communicate and perform a fascinating dance on the threads of the giant web they have woven in the Place Sathonay. These touching, burlesque insects of light radiate unexpected humanity. Spider Circus tackles the ambivalent feelings we have about spiders - involving both attraction and repulsion - in a humorous and spectacular way. Playing with our fantasies and fears, Groupe LAPS has created a playful catharsis.
SPIDER CIRCUS is an open-air circus, new and far-fetched, whose artists are spiders. Consisting of 70 luminous spiders, a marquee-shaped structure and a sound multicasting system, this 360 ° installation is both a monumental light sculpture and a live show.
Based on the principle of the decomposition of movement (programmed ignition stop motion), spiders move in the air on their canvas which is also the capital of the circus. They perform a series of numbers with amazing agility and skill. They become successively acrobats, dancers, wildcats, clowns or magicians under the impulse of a master of ceremonies (the character is tamer, loyal gentleman) and a musical band that turns the place into a great party venue.
Through their movements and actions, they form an animated ballet: a live show, funny and fascinating. True arachno-luminous therapy, this work magically cures all our irrational fears!
