'Citygazing' is a huge city map of light that floats above the canal. It's made from thin metal cables and wires, fit with LED lights. This work is a variation on an earlier installation the duo created in Kuala Lumpur.
The installation literally turns your world upside down for a moment. You would usually only be able to see this view looking down from an airplane, now it is right above your head. Bruns and Vogel show us an impression of the 'footprint' of light that we send into space. This moment gives the spectator a feeling of both grandeur and humbleness.
Astronauts who have seen the earth in the midst of space, experience first-hand the fragility of life on earth. Every astronaut who sees the earth floating in the vastness of space, experiences the 'overview effect', a mental shift of awareness how fragile life on earth is. With the light art installation in Amsterdam VOUW brings this feeling to people on earth. When they return to earth they feel compelled to commit themselves to a sustainable future. Justus Bruns (NL) and Mingus Vogel (NL) met at Delft University of Technology and have been working together since 2017 under the name VOUW. They design data visualizations, apps, websites and products. In addition, they are engaged in various projects
